About

I have always enjoyed crafting but one thing stuck, Knitting.

You will always find me with several projects on the go, work knitting, gift knits and what I like to call selfish knitting…

After thinking I would be a full time Mum to my then four children, my hobby turned into a career when I opened The Knitting Hut in 2006, my fifth child, Lola, (also known as the Shop Baby) arrived in 2007 and while I was at home with her as a baby I started ‘making up’ patterns to use up yarn which hadn’t sold in the shop.

One design led to another and I was approached by Search Press whilst exhibiting at The Knitting and Stitching show at Alexandra Palace.  This meeting amazingly led to an exciting design career with the publication of best selling knitting books including my latest title ‘Sue Stratford’s Knitted Aviary'.  So in a way I think of myself as an Accidental Designer!

Since then I have really enjoyed creating both toy and garment designs with the odd accessory thrown in for good measure.

In the past I have collaborated with Save The Children, Innocent Smoothies, Nestle Shreddies, Cbeebies and Erika Knight amongst others.  My most recent collaboration has been with Barnardos, you can find the patterns on their website HERE. I love the opportunity to work with others and I’m always looking for future exciting collaborations.

When I am not knitting (yup that does happen now and again) I enjoy walking with my weird dog Toby around the farm where Lola and I live in a lovely stable conversion. Time is spent working on our allotment and helping to look after our two horses.  I love life in the countryside, mucking out is one of my favourite things to do, who would have thought!

I always have ideas in my head, sometimes they arrive quicker than I can knit them up so watch this space….
